Highlands

Many people who first see a picture of a Scottish Highland with their long horns and thick long hair think that they look like Yaks. However, they are not Yaks, they are cattle. The Highland cattle comes in black, white, silver, red, blond, and brindle. We have all color Highlands at our farm.  All our Highland cattle are registered with the American Highand Cattle Association.  The Highland is a heritage breed cattle originating from Scottish Highlands and Western Isles of Scotland. Heritage breeds are traditional livestock breed that were raised by our forefathers. Highland cattle are known as a hardy breed due to the rugged nature of their native Scottish Highlands with strong winds and high rainfall. Their hair protects them during cold winters. They eat plants many cattle would avoid.   They are good mothers. They are listed with the American Livestock Breeds Conservancy as a "recovering" breed. We have Highlands available at times for sale.  Call Debra Speyer at (215) 519-6426 or (610) 949-9555 regarding cattle purchases.
